For those unaware, there is a bill on the floor of the Nebraska Legislature, as it relates to home owner insurance deductibles. Why is this important? It’s important because it addresses the practice of “vanishing deductibles”. What are vanishing deductibles? In short, they’re an under the table agreement between a contractor and homeowner, whereby the contractor pays the home owner’s insurance deductible for a home repair, in exchange for hiring said contractor to perform the repairs on the home. In essence, this is insurance fraud perpetuated by the home owner and contractor and may soon officially be illegal in Nebraska. Most legitimate contractors do not practice this type of fraud, but beware of those contractors who do offer this option in order to win your business. Learn more about the bill HERE.
